Joaquin Torres-Garcia

Joaquin Torres-Garcia was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on July 28, 1874 (wikipedia). He is without a doubt one of the greatest artists to come out of Uruguay. Even from a young age he knew he was meant to be an artist. He was good enough to be enrolled in the Escuela de Bellas Artes (wikipedia). He developed a new style of painting called flatism (wikipedia). Joaquin Torres-Garcia influenced many Uruguayans with his art, showing them that art could be interesting to look at and it could be interpreted differently. Joaquin Torres-Garcia died on August 8, 1949 (wikipedia). His paintings are abstract and don’t make much sense, but they’re art nonetheless.

Joaquin Torres-Garcia even has a museum dedicated to him (universeinuniverse) . Some of his famous paintings are: Nueva York, Paisaje de Ciudad, Composición en Rojo, Blanco y Negro, Suburbio, La Colada, Constructivo con Campana, and El Pintor con su Familia (wikipedia). He also wrote books. Some are: descubrimiento de sí mismo, la tradición del hombre abstracto, en defensa de las expresiones modernas del arte, and mística de la pintura (wikipedia). Some famous murals he did are: decoración mural de mon repós, maternidad, el pez, el sol, and el tranvía (wikipedia). As you can see, Joaquin Torres-Garcia was an excellent artist. From the start he was taking high level art classes, he created many great works of art, and he influenced the people of Uruguay.
